Web Resources
These are various resources that I could not have done without. I've listed the best as an inspiration to other budding web designers...
Programming & Standards in Web Design
- CSS Zen Garden is a fantastic website that takes a set script and then other designers alter the CSS file to show what really can be achieved through CSS. Really good for opening your mind to other ways of tackling design problems as well as a good resource on CSS
- W3Schools for helping me dip my toe in so many different languages. I still find this useful and it was here that I first started out with html.
- Sitepoint books are another great starting point. The forums are very useful on this website too.
- w3standards is an essential resource for keeping up to date with the latest web standards. The documentation here is pretty heavy, but it is a necessary evil if you are to keep ahead of the game. Check out their FAQs as a starting point.
- Listmatic is similar in context to csszengarden - it takes the list element and shows you how CSS can modify it.
- useit.com one I became aware of in a conference in 2003. Not the prettiest site but one that I find very informative.
- COLOURlovers.com is a great website when you are feeling particularly low on inspiration - put in some keywords and it returns a succession of suitable colour palettes for your perusal.
